What is a Dental Crown?

In the simplest terms, a dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that covers and supports a damaged, weakened and discoloured tooth by returning it to its original shape and size.

Why Do You Need a Dental Crown?

  1. To protect weakened or cracked tooth
  2. For supporting and covering the tooth with a large filling
  3. To cover an implant
  4. To protect your tooth after root canal treatment
  5. To cushion the gap of missing teeth
  6. To anchor a bridge

What Do Dental Crowns Look Like?

They are designed to resemble natural teeth. As the name suggests, they fit over an entire tooth, like a snug crown or hat. They are made from many materials including resin, porcelain, zirconia, ceramic or metal.

Is It Painful To Get a Crown?

A lot of people are afraid of the dentist because they’re afraid it’s going to hurt, and the same fear applies to getting a crown. From the first visit to the last, it’s supposed to be quite easy to get your crown. Before we do any filling or fit, you’ll be numbed in the mouth.

    How Dental Crowns Are Made

Our dental crown-making process is divided into two appointments.

        FIRST APPOINTMENT:

STEP 1: The tooth/teeth preparation stage or removal of old crown if exists

STEP 2: Taking dental impressions (digital or physical). Choosing a shade. The impressions are being sent to our lab. In the laboratory, the crown is being fabricated including all individual parameters

STEP 3: Fabricating and fitting a temporary crown to cover and protect your tooth as you wait for a new crown to be made

      SECOND APPOINTMENT (after 1-1.5 weeks)

STEP 1: Removal of a temporary crown

STEP 2: Installation of a permanent crown. Before installation, we make sure that the crown fits perfectly in shape, colour and size.

      READY! YOUR SMILE IS PERFECT!

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

It depends on many factors like:

      • Material of manufacture
      • Maintenance of oral health by providing proper home care and regular dental checkups

In general, they can last 8-10 years.

Are Crowns Covered By My Dental Plan?

Depending on your plan, you can get partial (50-80%) or full coverage for this kind of procedure. To make it more comfortable, we send an estimate to the insurance company before treatment is started to see how much is going to be covered.

How to Take Care of Dental Crown?

      1. Carefully brush your teeth twice a day with a toothpaste recommended by your dentist

      2. Floss daily

      3. Avoid hard foods

      4. Use a night guard to protect your teeth if you grind or clench your teeth at night

      5. Schedule regular dental check-ups (recommended every 6 months)
